In the cup match against Stromsgodset yesterday, starting his first official match for Viking FK, Tommy Hoiland got an injury already in the 35th minute. Forced to leave the pitch that early made this a sad "start line-up debut". And now it looks like the injured knee (menisk) could hold him on the sidelide for some weeks, if not more. Beeing the only striker in Viking FK that was 100% fit for fight, - this leaves Viking FK with "only" Peter Ijeh in that possition - although Ijeh was hoping to not play to much in these 3-in-a-row-plastic-surface-away-matches, since he is still not 100% ready after his longlasting injury.
Even worse is the situation in defence, - then Thomas Pereira has got a fractured rib in his side - and may also be put on the sideline for some time. Pereiras injury leaves Viking FK with ony TWO defender without injuries, - left-back Trond Erik Bertelsen and central defender Borre Stenslid. In the last 2 matches Thomas Pereira, normally only playing left back, have been playing central defender together with Stenslid. Pereira have impressed all in this position, especially then he was named man-of-the-matchin the 2-0 win against Lyn Oslo, only having been played central defender two times since he was a junior player.
Hopefully Viking FK have a chance of gatting one or two of the 13 injured playes ready for sundays match away against Bodoe/Glimt in North Norway. With only 2 defenders for hand, Uwe Rosler will probably give 16 year old Christian Landu Landu a place in the start line-up, giving the talent his first Leauge Match 4 days after his debut in the Norwegian FA-Cup in the loss in Drammen.

2008.08.06 – N.Cup 4R – Strømsgodset - Viking FK : 3 - 2
Viking almost fights back from being 3-0 down after halftime, even with a total of 4 teenagers on the pitch due to a heavy load of injuries. 18 year old Simen Melhus makes his debut in the 36th minute, replacing 19 year old Tommy Høiland due to injuries. Also 16 year old Christian Landu Landu and 19 year old Andreas U. Andersen was put on the pitch in the 69th and 46th minute.

Even before the match, Vikings manager Uwe Rösler and Stømsgodsets manager (and former Viking-player) Ronny Deila both concluded on Viking to be the underdog at this match - due to Vikings big problem with player injuries. Not even able to fill up the bench with reserves, Viking for the first time starts with 19 year old striker Tommy Høiland in the match line-up. Peter Ijeh was on the reserves bench due to his injury and the fact that the pitch surface is plastic - definite not Ijeh's favourite surface while still not well from his injury.
Ever-young left-back Thomas Pereira was again playing in the mid-defence, - and offensive midfielder Vidar Nisja had to re-appear on the right back - as long as the Viking squad only had 3 defenders left un-injured - as witch was 2 left-backs...
With both luck and intelligence Strømsgodset played with full force against Vikings weaker right side, - and already in the 2nd minute Strømsgodsets have their first attack and David Nielsen gets the ball passed Thomas Myhre on his second try. This first goal builds up both up Strømsgodsets confidence and Vikings despair in defence. Many times the attacks are run against Vikings right back position, - and in the 31st minute David Nielsen again gats the ball served from the left by Mattias Andersson, - and puts in his second for the day.
Less than 5 minutes later there is a major clash in Strømsgodsets area, - then Tommy Høiland (in Vikings start line-up for the first time) clash with Inge Andre Olsen while both try to reach the loose ball first. After the clash Høiland is put to the ground, while Olsen is flattened with spasm in his legs - and more seriously Strømsgodset Komlan Amewou is laying lifeless a couple of meters away. Shocked players from both teams alert the medical emergency, - and after a few minutes Amewou is again breathing and put in stable position on a stretcher and carried into an ambulance heading for a night on the hospital. Reports say he will be ok in the end, - put might have broken his jaw, - and had passed out due to the impact and the blood blocking his airways.
In the 44th minute Crister George added the 3rd goal to Strømsgodsets account, - and at the halftime, -after 6 minutes added for injury time, manager Uwe Rösler concludes that the chances for cup victory is over for this year, - and takes of Martin Fillo, - saving the young U21-national Czech who has been playing for 1,5 season without rest.
Adding the teenager to the team in 2nd half - Viking fights better in the rest of the match, - while Strømsgodset slows down. Then, in the 69th minute, Alexander Ødegaard loads his canon, - and puts in a magnificent goal in the top corner behind Strømsgodsets keeper Espen Johnsen. Just after the scoring Uwe Rösler puts in Landu Landu for Andre Danielsen. The chances now is more even divided between the teams, and then in the end Vidar Nisja sends of an excellent pass in front to Allan Gaarde, - whom puts it pass Johnsen to reduce the lead by one goal only in the 89th minute.
The Referees adds 2 minute injure time, - but there is no more goals - and Strømsgodset win the right to play Stabæk in the Quarter Final. A fair result after the overload of chances in the first half - but at least the teenagers of Viking show promising qualities for the future.
