The matches for the 1st round of the Norwegian FA-Cup is ready

The matches for the first round of the Norwegian FA-Cup is now ready. In Norway the cup is not drawn in the first 3 rounds, - but set up with mostly local matches, - with the Premier and 1.division teams all meeting lower level teams on away grounds.

Viking FK will meet local Stavanger-rival FK Vidar. FK Vidar is now playing (and leading) the local 3rd Division with 3 wins in 3 matches, and a goal score of 14-0, - but in the late 80-ies Vidar was a real force to recon in Stavanger, - as it placed it self in the play-off position to fight for promotion to the 1st Division/top level (Now called Eliteserien (Premier League)).

After Vikings relegation in 1986, Vidar was in 1987 actually for a short time the best fotballteam in Stavanger. But after Vikings promotion in 1988, Vidars role became more like a club for talents and some former top-players.

One of Vidars former big sons, Brede Paulsen Hangeland, is now playing for Fulham FC in the English Premier League, - as well as beeing a permanant member of the Norwegian National team (and Vice-Captain for Norway). Hangeland have also played some seasons for Viking, - before beeing sold to FC København ( FC Copenhaven ) .

Anouther "Vidar-breed", Frode Hansen, became one of the Vikingfans biggest local heros after 6 seasons in dark-blue, returning to Vidar after the 2005-season, getting some Player of the Year Awards for 2005 on the way. He played hard and honest in defence, - and often played best after letting his beard out.

FK Vidar had to earn their way into the FA-Cup by beating 3rd Div. rival Klepp IL 3-2 after extratime. 90 minutes ended 2-2 after 1-1 at halftime, having Klepp IL in the lead in both halfs.

In the late 80'ies the matches between Vidar and Viking was hard and even, - and mostly refeerd to as "The battle of the city", - hopefully Viking FK will get to 2nd round without any upsets.
